Chausar

The ancient cowrie-shell race game that inspired Ludo

Overview

About This Game

Chausar is the ancient Indian cross-board race game that Ludo directly descended from: the same 15x15 cross board, four yards, a 52-cell shared loop, and 6-cell home stretches per player, but thrown with six cowrie shells instead of a die, plus a must-capture-before-entering-home gate and a points score layered on top of the classic first-to-get-all-4-tokens-Home win condition.
